I`ve just read an article about the benefit of smiling and i want to share it.
I think it`s important for us to be reminded to smile as there`s a lot of benefit to it and people nowadays ,i think,smile lesser or are forced to smile especially in the service industry.Since less and less people smile at us,it seem easier for us to detect when someone smile insincerely.

A paper being published Friday in a British medical journal concludes that happiness is contagious _ and that people pass on their good cheer even to total strangers.

American researchers who tracked more than 4,700 people in Framingham, Mass., as part of a 20-year heart study also found the transferred happiness is good for up to a year.

"Happiness is like a stampede," said Nicholas Christakis, a professor in Harvard University's sociology department and co-author of the study. "Whether you're happy depends not just on your own actions and behaviors and thoughts, but on those of people you don't even know."

While the study is another sign of the power of social networks, it ran through 2003, just before the rise of social networking Web sites like Friendster, MySpace and Facebook. Christakis couldn't say for sure whether the effect works online.

"This type of technology enhances your contact with friends, so it should support the kind of emotional contagion we observed," he said.

Christakis and co-author James Fowler, of the University of California in San Diego, are old hands at studying social networks. They previously found that obesity and smoking habits spread socially as well.

For this study, published in the British journal BMJ, they examined questionnaires that asked people to measure their happiness. They found distinct happy and unhappy clusters significantly bigger than would be expected by chance.

Happy people tended to be at the center of social networks and had many friends who were also happy. Having friends or siblings nearby increased people's chances of being upbeat. Happiness spread outward by three degrees, to the friends of friends of friends.

Happy spouses helped, too, but not as much as happy friends of the same gender. Experts think people, particularly woman, take emotional cues from people who look like them.

Christakis and Fowler estimate that each happy friend boosts your own chances of being happy by 9 percent. Having grumpy friends decreases it by about 7 percent.

But it also turns out misery don't love company: Happiness seemed to spread more consistently than unhappiness. But that doesn't mean you should drop your gloomy friends.

"Every friend increases the probability that you're at the center of a network, which means you are more eligible to get a wave of happiness," Fowler said.

Being happy also brings other benefits, including a protective effect on your immune system so you produce fewer stress hormones, said Andrew Steptoe, a psychology professor at University College London who was not involved with the study.

But you shouldn't assume you can make yourself happy just by making the right friends.

"To say you can manipulate who your friends are to make yourself happier would be going too far," said Stanley Wasserman, an Indiana University statistician who studies social networks.

The study was only conducted in a single community, so it would take more research to confirm its findings. But in a time of economic gloom, it also suggested some heartening news about money and happiness.

According to the research, an extra chunk of money increases your odds of being happy only marginally _ notably less than the odds of being happier if you have a happy friend.

"You can save your money," Christakis said. "Being around happy people is better."

Use all your senses.
The more senses you use when you learn something, the more of your brain will be involved in retaining the memory. For example, odors are famous for conjuring memories from the distant past, especially those with strong emotional content, such as visits to a cookie-baking grandparent.

Read ,Draw and write
Widen the brain regions involved in learning by reading aloud, drawing a picture, or writing down the information you want to learn (even if you never look back at your notes). Just forming a visual image of something makes it easier to remember and understand; it forces you to make the information more precise.

Repeat things you need to learn. The more times you hear, see, or think about something, the more surely you’ll remember it

Do new things and challenger yourself
Engaging in activities that require you to concentrate and tax your memory will help you maintain skills as you age. Discuss books, do crossword puzzles, sudoku, try new recipes, travel, and undertake projects or hobbies that require skills you aren’t familiar or comfortable with. Again, challenge all of your senses as you venture into the unfamiliar: Try to guess the ingredients in a restaurant dish; give sculpting or ceramics a try; sample different types of music.

If you’re trying to memorize something, do it on an empty stomach. The hormone that improves memory is highest when the stomach is empty.

Move your eyes
Moving your eyes side to side for 30 seconds every morning can improve memory by ten percent. How? It gets the two sides of the brain working in harmony.

Choose a goal with measurable progress, so you can see the change occur.Break each goal of your goal into sub tasks that need to be completed.This will make it easy for you to achieve it.Outline the steps needed to achieve it and put it into your daily plan.Use your daily to-do list as a means to reach even your lifetime goals. Now that you've divided your goals into achievable tasks, incorporate those tasks into your list and pick them off, one at a time.

Attainable
A goal needs to stretch you slightly so you feel you can do it and it will need a real commitment from you.Write it down in complete detail.
Paste it somewhere visible like beside your mirror.It acts as a reminder everyday. Have a positive statement and express your goals positively.Besides that consider possible blocks and ways of dealing with them.

RealisticWhen you set a goal ,it must be realistic.not too high or too low.Having goals that too high will make you sad when you realise that you cannot achieve it.Some set their goal too low ,afraid of being a failure or take it too easy.

Timely
Set a deadlines and time frame for the goal: for next week, in three months.
Commit to carrying out your plan of action within the specific time frame.
Review and re-prioritize your goals regularly and when you suffer inevitable setbacks. You may find that they change over time, or that certain objectives get put on hold while you work on other

I know it just common sense but sometime we don`t realise that we are not doing what we should.The most common example you can see is at the public transport especially at the MRT where people don`t give up their seat to old or pregnant women.They pretend to be sleeping.Not only they did not show respect but also lying.It not that they don`t know how to show respect but they don`t want to.

Nod – nod once in a while to signal that you are listening. But don’t overdo it. Relate what the speaker is saying to what you already know.Also take note of the main point.


Do not interrupt you can ask question or give your opinion but just don`t interrupt.The speaker will appreciate your question or opinion as he tale it that you`re interested in what he is talking.Asking question can also show that you are listening and you want to confirm your understanding.


Take note of your own body posture Don’t slouch, sit up straight and don’t fidget .You body posture can show if you`re listening or just acting.

China Olympics 2008

You may be wondering that this is a personal development site and what does it has to do with China Olympics 2008.We can learn lots of things if we really want to even if it just something minor or as big as the olympic

What can we learn from China Olympics 2008 ??

lots of things.I think that China had done a great job especially on the 080808 the China Olympics grand opening despite the many opposition and so on.

Few weeks before,I have watch many people from there, keenly learning phrases to welcome visitor to the Olympic.This include old women and men.The willingness to learn show that they are sincere to welcome the world and also to improve them self.
They are also doing their part for the team ,which in this case ,the team is China.That`s a good spirit and teamwork.Doing it although their parts is very small.

As for the atletic , even if they loss they should it as an experience to learn and improve their performance.It could be their stamina or mind that make them lose.They should try to figure out their problem .

There a lot more to learn .It just how you see it

Some of you may be selfish in thinking that " since I know more why should i be sharing the knowledge.They will be the same standard with me"

You should have the facts right.Knowledge alone won`t determine your success.Its how you use the little knowledge to make a difference.Even if you know many things but did not do anything,it useless.

In todays busy world ,we are used to the word "busy" and "no time".We have no time to take a deep breath,relax and do what we really want.

Have you ever sit down and ask yourself where are you now.The "where" I mean here is not the office or shopping mall but what i`m refering to is how far are you from getting what you want in life.

Remember ,what you want in life is your `destination`.Its like getting in to the taxi and telling the driver where you want to go.but in this case you are the driver!

Not knowing where to go is the mistake that most people make .

For me, I want to have an excess of money that I can use for my parents comfort.
